Why Fromme Progression

Getting down a blue trail is not the same as riding it well.

A rider can follow someone else’s line, carry speed through familiar sections and still rely on rushed braking or guesswork when the terrain changes. The next step is better technique and independent decisions.

The change you can see

With each ride, they are making more of the decisions.

Not because every feature suddenly feels easy. Because braking, line choice and body position are becoming choices the rider can use when the trail changes.

01

They manage speed sooner.

Braking happens before the technical section instead of becoming a rushed reaction inside it.

02

They choose a line.

Looking ahead replaces blindly following the rider in front.

03

They use better judgement.

Progress includes knowing when to ride, retry, pause or walk.

Six sessions of deliberate progression

Observe. Adjust. Practise. Apply.

Coaching stays inside the ride. Each session builds from what coaches see, what the group is ready for and what the terrain allows.

These coaching stages develop across six weekly sessions—not a fixed day-by-day itinerary. The pace follows the riders.

Stage 1See how they ride now.Bike check · Blue-trail baseline

Everyone meets at Kilmer Park. After bike checks and an easy start, familiar blue terrain gives coaches time to see how each rider brakes, corners, climbs, chooses lines and responds when the trail changes. The goal is a useful starting point—not a test they need to pass.

Stage 2Make one change at a time.Braking · Position · Corners

Drop-off moves to the north side of the Mount Fromme parking lot. Coaches introduce clear, age-appropriate cues and let riders apply them during real laps. Instead of overwhelming them with instructions, the group focuses on the adjustments that can make the biggest difference to control.

Stage 3Read roots, rocks and lines.Natural terrain · Better decisions

As skills develop, coaching introduces more varied terrain. Riders learn to look farther ahead, compare line options, manage speed before technical sections and decide when to ride, retry, pause or walk. Features always come with options rather than pressure.

Stage 4Carry the skill into longer rides.Apply · Repeat · Progress

The group links longer sections and applies the same skills as the trail changes. Coaches keep watching, offer useful feedback and increase the challenge only when the rider is ready. Progress is measured in control and decisions—not simply the hardest feature attempted.

Stage 5Ride with fewer reminders.Independent lines · Favourite laps

The final session leaves more room for uninterrupted riding. Riders choose lines, manage their pace and put their skills together with less prompting. At pickup, families receive a clear recap of what the rider practised, where they improved and what to work on next.

Terrain follows readiness: Coaching begins on familiar blue terrain and progresses through suitable roots, rocks, corners, climbs and natural trail sections. Routes change with the group, weather, closures and current conditions. No rider is required to attempt every feature.

How they are coached

Useful feedback. Real repetition. No pressure.

The coach does not lecture through the ride. They watch, identify one useful adjustment and create a chance to use it on the trail.

Observed.
A small group lets the coach notice individual braking, balance, lines, energy and confidence.
Adjusted.
The rider receives a clear, age-appropriate cue instead of too many instructions at once.
Applied.
The rider practises on manageable terrain and carries the skill into the next section.

Maximum five riders per coach · Every coach is first-aid trained and criminal-record checked

Is my child experienced enough?

Fromme Progression is for capable blue-trail riders, not experts. They should already ride trails such as Bobsled in control, manage their own braking and gears, and have the stamina for a full day.

Will this be too easy for a fast rider?

Speed is only one part of riding. Coaches adjust routes and challenges for the group while developing braking, body position, line choice, climbing, trail reading and independent decisions.

Will my child be pushed onto a feature?

No. Riders can inspect, try, retry, pause or choose another line. Responsible progression includes knowing when not to ride a feature.

Are coaches teaching or mostly leading rides?

Coaching is built into the ride. Coaches observe, explain one useful adjustment, demonstrate when helpful, create a chance to practise and then watch the rider apply it on the trail.

Where are drop-off and pickup?

For weekend and school-break camps, the first session begins at Kilmer Park . For every session after the first, drop-off is on the north side of the Mount Fromme parking lot . Pickup is at Kilmer Park every session. After-school camps use the north side of the Mount Fromme parking lot for drop-off every session.

What does my child need to bring?

A well-fitting trail-ready mountain bike with gears and working hand brakes, a certified helmet, weather-ready clothing, water, snacks and lunch.

Does camp run in the rain?

Yes. Camp runs rain or shine. Coaches adjust routes when trail, weather or air-quality conditions require it.

Who will coach my child?

Coaches are skilled mountain bikers trained in first aid and in teaching skills at the right level for each rider. Every coach completes a criminal record check and leads no more than five riders.

What if we are unsure about the level?

Email us two or three trails your child rides now and anything they tend to avoid. We will give you an honest fit check before you choose your dates.

What is the cancellation policy?

More than 10 calendar days before camp, families may transfer to another available camp at no charge or receive a refund less a $35 administration fee. Cancellations received 10 calendar days or fewer before camp are not eligible for a refund, credit or transfer. The complete policy is shown before payment.
